Welcome to the Mixed Media Blog Hop.

we will be  introducing you to the world of mixed media  today.

For those who may not know what it is: Mixed media uses things like

But it is as simple as using glimmer mist on a tag or

Welcome to my blog, I'm loving the whole mixed media process. 
I've been taking online classes, it seems I can't get enough,lol  It started back in 2010 when I took my first class with Donna Downey at my LSS.

Here are some canvases I did after taking her class

I loved the whole "drippage" (that her word) of the paint

This past year I took the online class that Christy Tomlinson offers
called SHE Art

Loved it. Talk about using all kinds of Mixed media!
Paint, Gesso, stamps, rub~ons so many things, it's really endless.

Here is what I created after taking her class
using 6'x12" canvas

Here you can see where I used modeling paste with some paint mixed into it. I used a templete to make the design.

love modeling paste! I really like the texture.

I continue to take online classes at the moment

I'm taking a free class with Traci Bautista over at Strathmore

I'm also taking an e-class with Jeanne Oliver I'm loving her class.

just so you know, I'm not getting paid for recommending any of the classes.

I have really gotten so much from them that I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you all. I want to thank Scraps to Treasures for putting this mixed media hop together.

Here is what I came up with..

I want to show two projects
the first one is this "Be My Valentine" Wreath

I always have wanted to try this cone wreath.

I squared some book text paper. The squares are 7 3/4"

I just used the Tim Holtz mini attatcher

I just use one staple to hold it together.

then I cut a circle out of some chipboard and used it as the back

and I glued the tips to the chipboard

I cut the cupid from the Tim Holtz alterations die "Love Struck"
I glittered the little guy. I used 3 different colors
First I covered my cardstock with some sookwang tape

then a ran it through my big shoot

then I cut away away the pieces that I want to glitter one color

Then glitter the second color and so on

I used my cricut to cut the scallop circle

from Art Philosophy cartridge

Used an 8" doilie

I also cut the "be my valentine" from the calligraphy cartridge

I covered that in german glitter

I also popped the little cupid and did a stitch line with my white gel pen

For my second project

I wanted to share with you is a beautiful flower that my mom showed me how to make with cupcake liners

I used white cupcake liner

first you have to dye them with food coloring and hot water

once they sit there for a bit, just to get some color

you are going to squeeze all the water out of them

you want to separate and open them gentle

they will tear so be careful

then put them in the dryer to dry about 5-10 mins

until they are dry.

you could skip the whole process I just went through

and just mist them

I used moon shadow violaceous violet from Lindy Stamp Gang

Ok, putting the flower together

You need a chopstick or a wooden rod and some glue.

Fold cupcake liner in half and roll to make the center of the flower

add another one to make the center a little more fuller

Then you are just going to add each pedal to form your flower

you are just adding glue to the base and scrunching it there

I used book text strip 1/2" wide to cover the chopstick

I also added some leaves from Karls001

I just put glue on the tips of my fingers and twisted

the paper around the chopstick.

I added glitter to the edges of the pedals and I used stickles on the leaves.

here is the one I used with the mist

the texture is very different when you don't soak them in the hot water

I think these are so pretty. I hope you like them too

I hope this wasn't to long of a tutorial!

I want to thank everyone that stop by the hop and the ones that decided to become follower

of my blog. I'm thinking that you are all going to make me accountable to post more regularly.

This is one of my New Years resolutions, I'm not doing well with this one, lol.

I loved reading all your lovely comments.

There were some questions that I wanted to answer for you that were being asked.

Where did I get the chandeliers? I got them at Ikea a while back, not sure if they still have them.

The work bench was also an Ikea find.

My Comfy White Chair I got at Office Max. It was also a while ago that I purchased it.

I do see that they have some but they aren't quit the same.

I have to share that the typewriter is very new, My mom found it for me last weekend and I just

had to take a picture of it. It doesn't have a home yet hence the shot on top of the my work

bench. This is her second find, the first typewriter she found was for my daughter that wanted

one that had script type. I couldn't believe that she found one for her. She gave it to her for

Christmas. Can I tell you that was the gift of the year.

BTW my mom finds these things at thrift shops, She does have an eye for these things :)

I was also asked about the Lazy Susan Ironing board. I think I will do a tutorial on that,

so stay tune for it. I will have to do that tutorial some time next month or in march.

I'm going to CHA this coming weekend so I'm planning on doing some post on that next week.

I'm very excited to see what all the new products are going to be. if there is something

I have done a previous post of my studio here

I'm always changing my studio around, well that goes for the livingroom, dinning room you get the picture, lol

Here are some updated pictures

My comfy Chair. Took me forever to find a white chair,lol

This is the side that I stand at which is most of the time when I'm crafting.

I store all kinds of mixed media stuff in the bag that is hanging to the left. The basket hold tulle.

that little floral thing that is peeking out at the bottom

is a round ironing board that I had out of a lazy susan.

This is behind my desk

I just started putting my ribbons in these glass jars that I found around the house.

I still need more as you can see below. I stared sorting them in baggies by color.

Inside some of my sorted bins

I keep a basket filled with sticker letters, the floral box has rub-ons

which I started using since taking Christy Thomlison on-line classes.

Below are the Cricut Cartridge cases. Let me tell you I

had a hard time getting rid of the boxes for those cartridges, lol

This is a drawer under my bench. My favorite drawer with more embellishment.

as you can probably tell I collect all kinds of embellishment.

My mom made this for me. It's a ribbon with round paper clips sewn to it.

It hold pictures or whatever you like. I use it for holding inspirational items.

I made a Snowman Ornament.

One of my favorite characters during this holiday season.

These are the things you need

*Glass Ornament medium size.

The box doesn't have the size on it.

I got them at Micheal's 6 in a box

* Styrofoam ball 2" or 2 1/2"

*Snow-Tex

*wooden toothpick

the ones I used are from the cake decorating store

*Black and Orange acrylic paint

*glue gun

*9" pc. of tinsel

*Martha Stewart Holly punch

*green cardstock

*Karlas001-cynthisloowho's blingy looking mesh

which I cut into the berries

Pull the ornament apart. You only need the hanger and the glass ball

Now take the hanger and pinch it together and stuff it into the Styrofoam ball

you don't need glue.

Now put hot glue on the opening of the glass ball and shove the Styrofoam ball into.

It does take a little force.

Now you are ready to coat the styrafoam ball with the snow-tex.

This will hold the hanger in place once it dries.

It will take a while to dry. While you wait you can do the following.

Paint the tips of the toothpick and once they dry you can cut them.

Like so. I used my Tim Holtz scissors.

Just put a little hot glue and shove the painted toothpick it in to the head

Now your are ready to paint the face. Use the end of the paint brush

and dip it into the paint and just place the paint so that you make the eyes

and the mouth. I also added blush to his checks.

you can see that on the last picture.

I customized each ornament last year by putting the names of the kids with vinyl

I used my Cricut to do that.

So I customized this ornament too

as you can see :)

I will be putting the name of the follower that wins

this cute little guy.

I'll get to that, lol

and to finish up his little guy. I wrapped a 9" piece of tinsel and punched out a holy leaf and

cut some of the bling mesh to make the berries.

I hope you like this cute ornament and much a I enjoyed making him.

Holiday Tag

I made this tag for a tag swap I did earlier this month.

I used a manila tag and I decoupage wrinkled tissue paper onto it.

I then inked it with red distress ink it took a while to dry.

I cut a dollie in half and glue some book text in the center of it.

I cut the Happy Holidays on my cricut

I can't remember the cricut cartridge, I did a youtube video

showing the tag I think I mentioned it there.

I also used bling mesh form Karlas001 esty store

Dandylicious Creates Blogiversary blog Hop Winner is.......

I want to thank everyone for sharing your favorite birthday gifts with me. Since everyone shared theirs with me I thought I would share mine with you. I received a tennis bracelet for my 25th birthday. Which was also a wedding proposal from my hubby! The only catch was I couldn't have it unless I said yes,lol. Well 21 years later (we had a year engagement) we are still going strong.

Dandylicious Creates Blogiversary Blog Hop

It seems that the only thing that gets me to post lately is a good old blog hop.

DandyliciousCreates

is having her 1st blog anniversary and to mark this celebration she is hosting her first blog hop. I'm do glad that I as able to participate. I makes me accountable to post,lol

The theme of the hop is Celebrations/Birthday/Anniversary.

We were ask to do anything so I did a Layout. It's my husbands Birthday on Sunday.This is the layout I did

I used the new Teresa Collins collection Calolina Breeze. I papers I used are Nellie,Gentry and Kayla. I also used some of the die-cuts and the some of the stickers from the collection.

I made a pull out for journaling. Below is how I add this to my layouts. I attach a ribbon so that you can't pull the journaling block all the way out. I also added foam squares just to raise it a bit.

I made the ribbon long enough so that the area that I want to journal on will be exposed when I pull it out. I just used the TH Tiny Attacher to the journaling block and use a foam square on the other side.

This is what it looks like when you pull it out.

As you can see I also used some paint. I've been painting alot lately.

I've taken an online class and I have just fallen in love. I will do post on that next week :D

I used Claudine Hellmuth studio paints, TH distress crackle paints and Ranger Dabber acrylic paints.

I also used some flat back pearl and TH distress ink on the edges

Now we couldn't celebrate a birthday without a little RAK could we!

Clipboard Swap

I just recently send off a clipboard to Valerie over at Taff's Scrappen Playground she was my partner in this clipboard swap over at the facebook group Live.Teach.Create I really enjoyed getting to know Valerie.

I used the paper collection from Authentique Blissful. Can you tell I like that paper line?

I used a new product that I can across to use to put down the paper. I like that it didn't buckle the paper and it dried pretty fast.

It's called Collage Pauge instant decoupage- glossy it also comes in matte and sparkle.

The font I used is from the Expression 2- American Alphabet

I also used these Crystal drops, seam binding, and lace with ribbon. The clipboard is 15.5" long. I like using those so that you can use 8.5"x11' paper pad and still have room to decorate. I get those at Staples. I did paint the edges with acrylic paint.

I hope that Valerie enjoys her clipboard :D

Enjoying Summer and Sharing some ATC's

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your summer. Around here were are keeping busy. Mckenzie is back from college before she got home she headed over to South Africa for a month with her school to work with an organization that works with the street kids.

She had a great time. I have a feeling she will return there someday :)

Kennedy has been having a relaxed summer. Practicing golf with her dad, spending time with her friends: shopping, traveling and staying up very late.

I've been enjoying very much this summer :)

So I wanted to share some ATC's that I made for a group that I belong to over on the Memory Works forum. We have been doing a ATC swap with each new catalog.

I just made this one

for this current Memory Works catalog

I used Crate Paper: Emma's Shoppe paper collection.

Last Fall I made this ATC

I used My Mind's Eye: Theme Set - Market Street

I also used Tim Holtz's rosette die which I cut down to make a mini rosette This was my first ATC. I was nervous making this one.

The next couple of days I have the house to myself and I plan on spending lots of time in my Studio.

So looking forward to the next few days.

The Arty Addicts Technique Blog Hop

If you came from Stephanie Gradzki blog you are at the right place. if you just happed to visit today and want start from the beginning go to Angela Butler's blog. This blog hop is all about techniques 24 of us are sharing our favorite technique and the technique I picked is using the paper crimper. This was one of the first tools I bought when I started this hobby. I have to tell you that I had to dust it off. LOL. I have not used this tool in a very long time. It had been calling me the last few weeks and then I came across this technique on Journal Artist A Art

So I had to try it. Making your own Corrugated Cardboard

This is what you need a paper crimper, chipboard, cardstock, patterned paper, glimmer mist/water, wet glue

A thinner cardstock worked better for me when I put it through the crimmper. It seemed to keep it's shape better that a thicker cardstock.

You need to add moister to the cardstock before you put it through the crimper so that it keeps it's shape. I used glimmer mist to add color but you can use water.

after the cardstock goes through the crimper let it dry a bit. I glued this piece to the chipboard with some wet adhesive. I let it dry.

I prepared the patterned paper with little "X"s with an knife. So that I could pull and distress it after I glued it to the crimped paper.

Now you can add some ink

I love the way this came out. Imagine you can now you this to cut it out with any dies you may have. It works great for cover for mini albums. I used it for a little sign

I used one of Tim Holtz dies alterations mover and shapers- mini tickets set

I also used a Donna Downey Stamp for the saying.

Welcome to my Studio

Hi everyone. I would like to welcome you to my studio. One of my favorite things to do is watch youtube video on craftrooms. I hopefully will post one sometime soon of my studio.

This is the first time that I share my studio to the blog world.

I'm going to give you a little tour of my space, the picture below is taken from the door.

to the right of my desk is the die cut center, if you notice the prima flower bottles are in a spice rack that I found at a thrift shop. (I still need to paint it).

keep all my dies,embossing folders,binding machine and accessories in the cubbies.

the wall next to that is where I used the Ikea towel holders to hold "some "of my punches. In the cubbies I store paper,stickers,my express kits and extra adhesives,glass bottles. in the baskets above I have chipboard shapes, my Melody Ross chip art tools, some flowers and paint too.

to the side I hang templates,patterns that I made and my cricut mats. I also have gaffer tape hanging there.

I found this storage container at Target that holds my glimmer mist and all my altered art stuff. I love it because you can pull out the whole basket and take it with you. I also like that between the fist and second basket there is space for big bottles.

The other wall is the closet. There I keep all kinds of stuff. I like to use the plastic drawers, they hold loads of stuff. On the top shelf I have extra albums, I also have more paper and kits that I have been "collecting" that I have to start using, LOL

The Second side of the closet hold my stamps, and all other stamping accessories.

Ok, last wall might be my favorite. I Love my work bench, I tend to stand when I work so this work really well for me with everything handy.

Each drawer hold specific things, there are two that hold ribbon...I really like the stuff!,the top one has tools that I use occasionally, another one has trinkets that I collect when I go thrift shopping, another one hold packing/shipping items, sewing stuff (another hobby of mine),computer stuff in an other one and cricut stuff and some more punches in another. Under the bench I have two baskets that hold canvases and alter items, and a red tool box with real tools (LOL)

One more thing from this area is this basket idea. (A thrift shop find) I just have a dowel through the seam binding rolls and I use a clothes pin to hold them in place.

The second half of my favorite wall is my cricut center. I found the shelf at a thrift shop for $5.00 ( I still need to paint it,too) The plastic peg board was giving to me from my sister. She uses them for a display area at work.

This is my desk area, I'm not sure I like the ink pads there but they come in handy there,(this is another thrift find and again I need to paint it too).

the basket to the right hold all my tools that I tend to use regularly and I take to crops.

A Few Canvas Projects

This past December I made some canvas projects for my nieces for their Christmas gifts.I really liked the way they came out.

I first embedded some book text with some gel medium

And then I did some drippage, Donna Downey's word...which I like :) with some acrylic paint I let that dry and then I started to embellish then. I used Donna Downey Stamp set Where are you by Unity Stamps, some prima and some vintage trim

I've really have liked work on canvas this past year after taking Donna Downey's class at Remember When Scrapbooking class last year.

I made the Vintage Corsage for a swap over at

Sweet Goodness Swap

I thought I would share it with you all.

This was fun to make. I cut a heart out of Chipboard and painted it with Tim Holtz's Distress Crackle Paint in Worn Lipstick, I glued a heart doily and I found a valentines pick at Michael's. I made a ribbon and tulle bow. The book text rosette I cut from a Tim Holtz die and I put Stickles ( Platinum-My favorite color with doing vintage stuff) on the edge. I found the vintage valentines tag in my stash. I really don't know how old this is...LOL

My Vintage Valentine project is this little cone

I favor crepe paper trim. I love is stuff and I find it hard to find or to expensive so I make it myself. I found a vintage roll at a thrift/antique shop in the bay area.

I also use regular party streamers.

To make the Fringe, I layer about 4 or 6 sheets of the streamer and sew down the center. I crease it down the middle to help me sew it straight.

If I want it to be a smaller fringe, I sew about 1/2 " away from both edges

after sew one edge I flip it and do the other. Then I cut it down the center and I'm left with two strips. Now that I've sewed it it time to cut! This is time consuming

I fold the streamer in half where the seam is and cut 1/4" just into the center

This is the small fringe. I did the same but cut maybe just under ever 1/4"

Now that you have cut it it's time to fluff

it's easier to put it on your project and then fluff

To make the cone I used a 6"x6" square

Then cut from one end to another to create a half circle

Create your cone and hot glue it together.

hot glue the fringe to the top edge

glue the doily and I glued German Glass Glitter onto Maya Road chipboard pieces

I used seam binding for the handle

Our theme for this month is CHRISTMAS!

This is a 6x6 2 page layout I did for a mini book . it was inspired by a Donna Downey class I look this past summer. I embedded some book text, I inked the edges and used some stamps, I also used some dew pearls.

This card I made with the Teresa Collins Christmas paper. I added Tattered Angles GLAM to the tree and some Glaze to the ribbon on the tree.

I loved this little snowman that I saw at a rummage sale (it wasn't for sale!)

This little tree was also there and I thought it was a great idea for a kids project. I love that the trunk of the tree is a Cinnamon stick.

One last card that I made as a make and take at a crop that I attend a few weeks back. I have a new favorite tool. it's a "Button maker" from Epiphany Crafts they come in different shapes. You can see the button on the red tag and the round button like epoxy above the snowman. I love that you can coordinate your buttons to the papers you are using.

I can not believe that September is almost over! I'm not sure what happened to this month. I've been getting use to not having my older one here at home and the new schedule that my youngest has in high school. I have worked on some projects. Happy Labor Day and things I've been working...

Today my mom and sister are coming over to do some crafting. It's been a while since we have do that so I'm really looking forward to it. Here are a few things that I've have been working on. Boy, do these swaps keep me accountable :)

This is a tag that I did for a travel vintage tag swap that Karls001 on youtube was hosting. This was my first time participating in a swap that was being hosted on youtube. I also signed up on another swap hosted by atwatermoon this one is going to be a fall banner swap. I'm excited to start working on that one. I also go at youtube channel ScrapiliciousLife sign up as a subscriber and I will be doing a little RAK when I do my first video. Really the thought of doing a video makes me very nervous, this is really stepping outside my box but I really want to do this...Yikes!! Thanks Karla for getting me involved...I think LOL.

I made this banner as a birthday gift for a girlfriend of mine. This was the first banner in a while that I had done. I really enjoyed it because I used many of the new things that I have been playing with

Here I used Diamond Dust from Micheal's,German glitter,and my new favorite thing GLAM from Tattered Angles. I pained the vintage dictionary paper with the glam and then applied the diamond dust. I added the feathers. I enjoyed making these flowers

I have really enjoyed working with canvas boards as some of you might have noticed. I mad this one for the same swap as the banner above. I really liked how this came out...I hope I can make another one for me...LOL This one was totally inspired by Donna Downey class I took in august.

and One last thing I want to share with you today is this little 2 page layout that I did for a 6X6 Christmas Book swap that I hosted for the memory works consultants.

I embedded some dictionary paper on the edges of the paper I added gesso on the paper to make it washed out and I inked the edges and stamped some images...I made these so that either page could be the front or back cover of the book.

I used a canvas board, painted the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint, Worn Lipstick, then I added the Distress Stickles, Rock Candy to add sparkle. The paper is from the Simple Stories, Life Documents and I inked the edges with Color Box Chalk,Creamy Brown. I used Glossy Accents on the sticker letters and numbers. You can see a close up of the flower here from an earlier post.

I've been a consultant for Memory Works for a couple of years and this year they introduced the Simple Stories Product line. It's a great paper line. I personally like the colors and the versatility. There are two lines the Life Documents and the newest one that came out this month ele.ment.ary school collection

One Photo Challenge

This is a challenge over at Practical Scrappers to just use one photo on a page. I don't do pages with just one photo every often. This is a challenge for me.

I've been into paper folding lately hence the pleating and I also like using the tiny attacher to the folded strip of paper just below the picture. The flower are made with a flower punch. I think the page is simple but it really shows of the picture...of the beautiful girls in my life.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY".

I love these pictures of Kennedy's first birthday. I used nook and pantry paper from Basic Grey.

These flower are a scalloped circle punch and I cut into the circle and crunched it up a bit and inked it with ColorBox Chalk; creamy brown. I cut some circles out of denim with my big shot and cut some1/2"stripes of the denim.

I attached the denim strips with my Tiny Attacher from Tim Holtz...I love this tool!

I'm taking classes by Donna Downey this weekend for two days at Remember When Scrapbooking! I just got back from taking her newest class. Creating an Art Journal. I have been watching on youtube people working on these Art Journals and I've been wanting to start one and now I have...

here is Donna demonstrating "Drippage" on my page :)

I took me awhile to get into it this art journal but once I did I felt like I was in kindergarten. I had so much fun and her is a picture of Angela

She got into it much faster than I did.

Here is some stuff that Donna brought with her to sell and I have to admit I got a few things.

I can't wait until tomorrow I'm taking two classes I'll share those and my Art Journal tomorrow.

My Minds Eye DT challenge

Love the pictures of the 1st LO. This is my youngest when she was 10 months (she is now 14 :( oh I do miss this age...Sometimes! Like when I see these. This is what I came up with for these papers. I don't recall the names of the lines...I'm thinking it's Abby Road but not sure.

A card with a little paint on the edges...Had fun with that.

The flower is just pedals that I cut by hand that I shaped and curled then glued to back of button.

the title Franz I cut slits in the stripped paper and thread the blue strip through the slits.

I used crepe paper for the edge that I ruffled and glimmer misted.

I cut a V shape on the top part of the strip of paper and distressed the edges and curled

The flowers were glimmer misted

Little post it pad on a binder ring.

I'm on a ruffle bender! the strip below the picture is attached with the tiny attacher.

Sharing Another Mini Album with a few Paper Techniques

This is a Christmas Mini Album that I designed for the Christmas in July Crop at Remember When Scrapbooking Store. I have to say that Tonya the owner throws a mean crop! She has owned the store since November 2009 and I have to say that she has turned into "The Store" you want to be at! I'm so proud to be on the first ever Design Team and my term is over after this month! I will be applying again...wish me luck! I love the up coming months so I really hope I get on the next team.

So this is the album I did for the Crop. I used a pack of My Minds Eye Christmas Paper

I also only used the basic tool kit that the store suggest to make the this album.

Let me tell you it was a challenge for me!

Cover

Scalloped Pleated Ruffle: Cut 1 ¼” strip from desired paper. Scallop edge punch on one long side. Ink both front and back of scalloped edge. Place strong adhesive around edge of chipboard. Apply with straight edge of strip to chipboard with scalloped edges out, fold and pleat strips as needed to create fullness.

Scalloped Flat Ruffle: Cut 1¼” strip of paper scallop edge punch on one long edge only, ink scalloped edges. Cut strip into 1½“ – 2” chunky bits. Using a strong adhesive, adhere to chipboard creating a flat ruffle.

Ruffled Pocket: cut out an extra background and cut in half with print sides together glue along round edges. Cut 1” slits approximately every ½” across straight edge of half circle. Using your finger curl every other tab of the top layer of paper towards you. Curl the entire tab. Using your finger curl the second layer of the same tabs toward you. Curl second layer of tabs to just above the first layer of curled tabs. Trim remaining straight tabs at an angle.

Rolled Ruffle: Cut 1 ½” strips from Christmas Tree patterned paper. Cut approximately 1” slits every ¼” in one long edge of strip. Using a strong adhesive mount to the edges of the circle Christmas Tree side up cutting inside edge as necessary to make paper lay flat around circle and with fringe hanging off chipboard. Curl each individual fringe alternating one toward and one away from you. Tip: When placing strips around a circle, cut small ¼“ slits as needed on the straight edge of the strip to allow it to lay flat as it goes around the circle.

With all this Christmas in July I'm hoping to be ready when the actual day of Christmas is here...LOL

Here is a layout that I did with some chipboard letter I cut out and I used my favorite white pen, Signo uniball pen. it's the best you won't need to search for another white pen ever! the trim is from of course Craftology studio, the felt boarder is from KaiserCraft scrapbooking as the paper. the tags are from the office suppy store and the twine is from Micheals shipping dept. the buttons are fron Jenni Bowlin: vintage button collection,pearls are from the e. line.

Paper Bag Album

Here is a paper bag album I did as a class. I used kaisercraft paper Clarabelle and Wild Violet. I loved this paper. I also used the girls paperie stamps, paper girl clear,most of the trims are from craftology studio.

This is the Cover. I just used 3 brown lunch bags, and I alternated the bags before using the cropadile to bind it together. These flower are 5 scalloped circle punches. 1 is the foundation and the others 4 are folded in 1/2 and then 1/4 and glued with points in the center. I bend the edges to fluff a bit and added a button with thread in the center. Cute flower and ease to make.

Christmas in July Blog Hop

Welcome to our Christmas in July blog hop. There are 13 of us consultants that have come up with a project using Memory Works products. These are projects that you can make for the holidays and hopefully we have inspired you with some of our ideas. Here is mine idea. I used a canvas board, I've really enjoyed using these =)

I actually used a December Memory Works Express Kit to create this. If you haven't seen what an express kit is please check it out at the memory works website .I such love these kits. They come with so much in them and every month I'm so surprise with it. If you are interested let me know and I could set it up for you.

Here is a close up of what I did. I used the distress paint on the edges of the board, I mod podge the paper to it. I used some candy cane piping to edge the top and bottom. I also used some diamond dust on the edges.

I'm giving this away in a random drawing to anyone that leave me a comment here, letting me know what was your most favorite gift you received as a child. Mine was a baby Crissy Doll, her hair grow!

Congratulations to you Mckenzie.

I just can't believe that 17 years ago I was wonder how it was going to be when you graduated from High School, What you would be as a teenager? What your interests would be. I was a new mom with this baby girls that we were responsible for. At times it just seemed so overwhelming to think so far into the future. Now looking back at that time I feel that it went by so FAST!

I am so proud of the person you have become.We were very lucky to be your parents. I truly admire how you have become your own person with your own independent thoughts, your eagerness to be politically informed, your awareness of your community around you, your honesty, you have so many great qualities and a few that I know with time will improve. I know you are so ready for college and the world that is out there for you to experience. I hope for you that you take every advantage of the opportunities that are out there for you. To learn from all your experiences the good and bad ones. Mckenzie you only have a couple of weeks before you are bound for the University of San Francisco...Life is waiting for you!

I just want to say Thank You to all of you that stopped by and shared your family holiday traditions me.I loved reading them all. In my family traditions are really important. As most of you know my daughters are 17 and 14. Since they were born I 've unintentionally started traditions. Well during Christmas last year my youngest mentioned that we had not decorated sugar cookies at yaya's (grandmothers house) this year and I said well it's been a very busy time but I just didn't think that they wanted to do it because after all they are teenagers and they wouldn't think about it twice...Well was I wrong! She claimed that it was tradition that we go to yaya's and decorate cookies like we do every year,we have to do it! So we did =D

Adorable album! Our holiday family tradition is to spend it with family! :-) The last 2 years at Easter, we've had a nighttime egg hunt and brunch. At Thanksgiving, we invite family and friends over for smoked turkey--we had almost 40 people this year! For Christmas, we travel to see our family (2 states away).

My Green Enchilada Chicken Cassarole Recipe

I'm sharing this recipe because so many have asked for it. When ever I take it to a potluck everyone seems to enjoy it and there is someone that ask for the recipe.

I have been make this for a couple of years now so I really don't have measurements but I tried to take note the last time I made it

Green Enchilada Chicken Casserole Recipe

12 Corn Tortillas
Shredded Chicken (sometimes I just steam 4 chicken breast or go buy a roasted whole chicken)
Mexican Crema or Sour Cream
Monetary Jack Cheese
Las Palms Green Enchilada Sauce 32oz ,Reserve about 1/4 cup for bottom of casserole
Ortega Green chilies
1/2 cup chopped fresh Cilantro
1 med Onion
1 Garlic
salt and pepper

saute chopped onions until tender add the diced green chilies, shredded chicken, cilantro (the picture above don't have the cilantro because the night I made this didn't have any) simmer a about 5-10mins and add the green enchilada sauce and simmer for another 5-10mins. salt and pepper to taste.

Meanwhile start warming the tortilla on a grill or you can fry in some oil until tender and pliable.

You will start layering like a lasagna

first spray your 9"x9" or 9"x13" pan with Pam

the first layer is the reserved green chile sauce

then the tortillas. Some of the tortillas I cut in half like the picture below (9"x9")

then spread sour cream, chicken mixture,sprinkle the cheese and repeat until you finish reach the top with the cheese begin the last layer.

put in oven @ 350 for about an hour until it starts bubbling. uncover and a leave in over until the cheese browns. I serve this with a salad when I make for dinner at home.

my unforeseen blog break

So Much has happen since my unforeseen blog break. I applied for the Design Team at Remember When and I was one of 5 that was picked for the 1st Design Team . I already got my first assignment, I have been working on that and I'll post a sneak peek later this week. This was the first time I had ever applied for a design team. It just never seemed to be the right time.
This month is my third month doing Liz’s Technique Boutique class which will be on Tuesday of this week.

I also have been working with a group of ladies that booked me once a month do design a two page layout and card for them. That has been a blast for me. I bring everything ready for them and we just have fun for about two hours a month. If this is something that might interest you and your friends email me and we can make arrangements.

On the layout above I cut the word "celebrate" with my cricut using the Make the Cut program. I had bought a custom font from Donna Downey I just became an affiliate for Make the Cut because I just love this program. I am a font junkie and to be able to cut every font on my computer is a SWEET thing!
I'll be sharing some other things about this program. on the side bar you can click on the product information and download a trial version of the program. let me know what you think.

I have also been working on getting an Etsy Shop open. I'm hoping to have it open by April 15th. I'll post a sneak peek on that also later this week. I love trims, ribbons, trinkets. I love to go thrift/swap meet shopping or go to downtown LA and go treasure hunting as I call it. I'm always on the look out for different things to use when making scrapbook layout, cards, sewing and just creating things. So I'll be sharing that on my Etsy Shop. So I have a few plates in the air this is what has been going on in my world. Nice way to start SPRING this year with so many new happenings!

Roasted Tomato Chutney

I can across this recipe when I wanted try my hand at preserving some fruit. I came across this cookbook. I loved that is said small-batches. I liked this recipe because it seemed like I could handle this one becasue it was easy, I could just use my freezer I didn't have to process it. I've been making this since last august and my family loves it. It won't last a week! The recipe comes from the book the Complete Book of Small-Batch Preserving I got mine at costco or sam's club. The whole Small-Batch really caught my eye...LOL

Roasted Tomato Chutney

1 Cup Fresh Coriander Leaves, packed tightly

10 Plum Tomatoes, quartered

10 Cloves of Garlic, peeled

1 2" piece of Hot Yellow or Jalapeno Pepper

2 tbsp Olive Oil

1/2 tsp each: Ground Cumin, Mustard Seeds, Salt and freshly ground Pepper

1.Place coriander in shallow ovenproof casserole. (I use a cookie sheet with an edge) Top with tomatoes,garlic and hot pepper. Drizzle with the oil and sprinkle with seasonings.

2. Roast,uncovered in a 350 oven for about 35 minutes. remove from oven stir to combine and cool slightly. Place in a food processor and the pulse with on/off motion until coarsely chopped.

3. Spoon chutney into jars or plastic containers to within 1/2" of the rim. Cover with tight-fitting lids. label jars and refrigerate for up to one week or freeze for longer storage. (I just put mine in a tupperware, mine just never make it to this step...LOL)

You can use this on pasta, with crackers, as a appitizer or in a pasta salad. It also matches will with grilled beef, chicken or pork.

Reflecting on their Childhood.

My "Baby" is a 14 year old! I just can't believe how fast time flies. I do remember, when I just had the girls people telling me "that the time flies when they are growing" boy, does it ever! I like to reflect on each of the girls birthdays. What we used to do, when they were babies, toddlers, grade school age. I think, we had loads of fun. Now that they are in high school and 8th grade I can see how the things we did have impacted their likes and dislikes. One loves to scrapbook and the other doesn't ( I don't know what I did wrong there...LOL), one likes to sing where the other like thinks she can. One likes to garden where the other one can care less.One like to draw where the other doesn't. But then again there are things that they both enjoy. Reading, spending time with family and traveling. Well, maybe it's not even what we use to do that shaped them! It's just how they were born. I did enjoy them so much when they were babies, toddlers and in grade school. We did so many things, I do miss those days, sometimes. They are wonderful teenagers. I could not have asked for such beautiful young ladies to be part of my/our lives. They make me laugh, make me think, they definitely keep me on my toes. I have enjoyed every chapter of their lives and I look forward to each of their new chapters that they begin to life on their own ( with me by their side of course!) because before I know it in a few months one will be off to college and the other one will be starting high school!

Stuff I've been working on...

I've been working of some project! I rearranged my "studio"! I'm much happier and the flow of creativity is flowing!! Today I got a swap ready to ship, I started making a Roasted Tomato Chutney. I serve it like a salsa with chips but you can use it with any type of meat, pasta. I'm preparing for a party so I'll share the recipe later...

I was also working on a layout for a Feb. Challenge over at the Memory Works Studio, I should have read the directions before I started. I missed a few thing! Oh, well I'll share it with you. It was the first time that I actually have sewn on a layout with my sewing machine. I haven't sewn on paper since I was learning to sew on an industrial sewing machine when I was in school at FIDM. I did enjoy it! So we will see what else I come up with since I did take out the machine and dusted it off! I also used a new program Make the Cut for my Cricut. I cut the word Cousins in the Goudy Stout font from my computer and I printed my journaling with the same font. I really like the way it can out. If this is something that you might look into you can visit Lisa's Blog . You can also purchase it through her. She has some great ideas there too.

Here is a close up of the hearts. I used Distress Crackle Paint: Rock Candy, I crinkled the heart before sewing it to the page then I distressed it with Distress Crackle paint;Rock Candy and Colorbox chalk ink: dark brown

I'm so excited to be part of the 1st Memory Works Blog Hop. We are featuring the Simple Stories Life Documents which was launch last month. I just love the how easy it is to use this kit, but most of all I love the colors, the distressed look and the weight of the paper. The MW consultants were to come up with some creative ideas using the Simple Stories Life Documents and here is what I came up with...

I used a canvas board, painted the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint, Worn Lipstick, then I added the Distress Stickles, Rock Candy to add sparkle. The paper is from the Simple Stories, Life Documents and I inked the edges with Color Box Chalk,Creamy Brown. I used Glossy Accents on the sticker letters and numbers

I also made a few cards

I'm going to be teaching a Scrapbooking Class the last Tuesday of the month over at Remember When... in Valencia. I've never taught at a "scrapbooking store" I did teach at Michaels for a short while and I have taught through home classes but not at a Scrapbook Store. I do love to teach I'm so looking forward to the next few months..

I have a full weekend planned. Cookie Swap Party on Sunday I need to make 81/2 dozen cookies...yikes ! There are 3 prizes: one for best cookie, best presentations of cookie, and packaging of cookie. I have some work to do. I also have to make a mini recipe book with all the cookies that are being presented. My party favor for the guest. What else... I need to do some crafting of gifts. Kennedy is performing at a Holiday Dance show,Mckenzie want me to take her to a artist show to buy her Christmas gift in town to L.A.....Like I say a full weekend.

Wrapping idea....

I did some wrapping...Wow my first gift wrapping for the season! This is a fun idea,which I got from KimArcher.com.au I'm attending an online workshop there. These are magazine pouches. you get two pages from a magazine you line and glue three sides together and you drop your gift in and seal the forth side close. and then wrap some ribbon, belly band or twine add your tag a you have a very cute wrapped gift.

I made an ornament for a Christmas Secret Sister Swap. I call it's a "reversed decoupage" process. What I did was I photocopies some vintage images at Kinkos. The ink from my printer runs with the modpodge. I use a glass ornaments, the larger ones are better. I used the flat kind in the picture below. Pour a little of the mod podge into the ornament and you need to spread all over the inside of the ornament. I bought long mascara brushed to help me do this. I had already cut the image out, I rolled the image up to fit through the whole and once inside I used the mascara brush to flatten the image out and get the air bubbles out. once the images are all in place pour the finest glitter into the ornament and slowly roll the glittle around the inside the ornament. add another color and do the same. pour out extra glitter and put back the topper and add a bow =D

Scuba Girls

I took my GS troop to a Learn to Scuba workshop. It was a great opportunity for them. They were every excited and I think a little nervous at the same time. Well at least I was just watching them. When they went under for about 20 mins I caught myself holding my breath and my ears were hurting too. It was really a nice memory for the girls.
